Enugu health workers begin indefinite strike

The Chairman, Medical and Health Workers Union, Enugu State
Chapter, Mr Maurice Eze, said on Saturday that health workers in state
hospitals had begun an indefinite strike to protest the non-implementation of
the 2009 Salary Structure.
Eze told the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu that the
approved 2009 salary structure for health workers and professionals had not
been fully implemented by the state government.
He said the state government had implemented the doctors’
Salary Structure, but that it had yet to implement that of the health workers.
Eze said, “All the states in Nigeria have implemented the
structure, except Enugu.
“We have written and appealed to the state government to pay
us but to no avail.
“Even when they took us to court, the court ordered them to
pay us because it is our entitlement but the government refused to carry out the
order.
“Our two months’ salaries for April and May 2009 were seized
because we went on strike to press for our demand and up till this moment, we
are yet to be paid the seized salaries.
“We will not call off the strike until the state government
meets our demands, “ he added.

A schoolboy has become the world's youngest qualified
computer specialist after passing a Microsoft Windows exam at the age of just
five.
Ayan Qureshi has only just started primary school, but
passed the test at Birmingham City University to become a Microsoft Certified
Professional.
He has set a new world record for the youngest person ever
to pass a Microsoft exam - at the age of six years
Ayan was first introduced to computers when he was just
three, by his father Asim, 43, who soon realised his son’s natural aptitude for
technology.
The IT consultant then built his son a computer lab at the
family’s home in Coventry, West Midlands and started preparing Ayan for the
complex Microsoft test.
After just five months training, Ayan sat the 'Supporting
Windows 8.1' assessment for IT professionals alongside several adult
candidates, even though at five he will not be able to work for another eight
years.
Ayan sailed through the two hour exam in September and even
finished with time to spare before finding out shortly afterwards he had
passed.
"We are just so proud of him," said Mr Qureshi.
"He has plans to take an advanced test in the future
but he has to concentrate on school for now.
"He was very interested in computers from the age of
three so I started explaining to him about hardware and software and installing
programmes.
"I found that whatever I told him, he was able to
remember it the next day, so I built a computer lab in our house for him to
use, and he loves it.
"I showed him how to install Windows and then decided
to enter him for this exam.
"It wasn’t easy teaching him every day but he picked it
all up in the end."
When Ayan, now six, and his father arrived at the university
invigilators were so shocked to see such a young candidate and they said he
couldn’t take the exam.
However, a phone call to Microsoft rectified the problem and
Ayan took his place at a computer alongside the other adult candidates.
"There was just a room full of adults there when we
went to take the test on a Saturday, but I’m not sure if they all passed or
not," said Mr Qureshi.
"He wants to keep on learning so I am sure he will be
ready to take more exams quite soon. He’s incredible really.
"He enjoys playing computer games like any kid but now
he is more interested about how they work."
The test is normally taken just before or after university by
young adults aiming to be information technology technicians.
Sections of the assessment included multiple choice, fill in
the blanks, drag and drop, and several scenario based questions.
The computer based outline test examined the applicants’
knowledge of hardware, software, and their understanding of how Windows works.
And the certificate, which he keeps in his bedroom, shows he
can use operating systems created by USA computing giant Microsoft.
Ayan, who has a younger brother Rayn, three, has also undertaken
some distance learning lessons from London based computer training company IT
Bolts.
He was born in Lahore, Pakistan, but his father and mother
Mamoona, 34, who is training to become a GP, moved to London in 2009.
The youngster is yet to decide on a career path but hopes
for a job involving his favourite subjects of maths and computing.

Most people cope with the stress of college midterms exam by posting whiny Facebook statuses and maybe knocking back a few drinks. Other

An unidentified male student at Fresno State University in
Fresno, Calif., was discovered by campus police on top of a sheep with his
pants down.
The fifth-year computer engineering student was apparently
reported to police by a female student who lived near the sheep unit. She was
startled when she heard a knock on the door, which is why she called police in
the first place.
The male student, who had been drinking earlier that day,
initially told responding officers that he came down to the sheep unit to
wrestle cattle. When the officer pointed out that there weren’t any cattle, the
student said it was “all the same,” but revised his story to say he planned on
beating and punching the sheep to blow off some stress from midterms.
However, the student eventually told the truth about why he
was standing in a barn full of sheep with his pants down at 3:30 a.m. but
insisted it was his first venture into interspecies relations. As he was
arrested, he allegedly asked officers whether or not he’d be expelled for his
actions.
The University has not issued a statement on the incident,
but students like John Traini, who is in the animal sciences major, said it was
“wrong … just not right.” Other students told reporters from KMPH that
a veterinarian went to the sheep after the incident and inspected all five of
the animals present at the time.
While it’s up to the school authorities of Fresno State
University to decide whether or not the student will be expelled, beastiality
is considered a misdemeanor in California. If found guilty, the student could
face up to six months in jail and up to a $1,000 fine.

Sometime during the week, I paid a visit to Kirikiri Town
after a very long time. I grew up there as a little boy and it was there I had
the fondest memories of my life. As soon as I got into town, word went round
and friends started calling to find out where I was. I hooked up with my
childhood best friend, Patrick, and we decided to take advantage of the
beautiful weather by going for a walk through the town to recall some of our
funniest memories from childhood.
The first thing we laughed about was how Bright Okpocha, the
comedian known as Basketmouth, took us along to steal his father’s fowl. We
were four very close friends who practically did everything together. I lived
in the prison barracks and I was always telling them
mouth-watering stories of
how those of us who lived there regularly made chicken pepper soup and plantain
porridge with fowls in the barracks.
I never knew Basketmouth was licking his
lips to my stories all along until he called us one very beautiful morning to
steal his father’s fowl. We got to his family house the next morning and
executed the fowl like trained assassins. Basketmouth and myself were assigned
to cook the jollof rice while Patrick and Godwin (Basketmouth’s immediate older
brother) kept watch in case their mum got back from the market earlier than
anticipated.
After cooking, Basketmouth, thinking because he had the biggest
eye balls among us demanded to be given the best part of the chicken.
We wasted no time in reminding him of his age compared with
everyone else’s. We ate everything and thought that we had rid the house of any
evidence that could have incriminated us. We didn’t realise that Basketmouth
forgot to throw away the feathers of the fowl. Later in the day when we were
gathered at another friend’s place recounting our exploits for the day,
Basketmouth’s little brother walked up from nowhere and said their father was
calling all of us. See gobe! We knew instantly that we had been caught and it
was due to Basketmouth’s negligence.
The first thing the old man said when he saw us was “O
Bright, you have eaten my heart.” We fought back laughter, fearing a double
dose of whatever punishment we had coming. Oh! We teased Basketmouth and his
brother Godwin with that line afterwards. We escaped without punishment. Thank
God for his beautiful mum who pleaded on our behalf because she loved us all
like her own. Patrick and I strolled further down town to the secondary school
we attended and had a good laugh imitating Daddy Showkey, who was our senior in
school and was always walking around the school premises, wearing bathroom
slippers. His uniform was never tucked in but he was always punishing us for
‘flying’ our uniforms. The junior students dreaded him like hell. We talked
about how the late Evangelist Sunny Okosuns was said to have been a very
playful boy in one of the public primary schools in the town. On our way to the
prison yard, we passed by the house where Rev. Kris Okotie grew up.
We talked about life in the prison barracks and how being
the son of the chief warder of the maximum security prison gave me the
opportunity to meet very influential Nigerians in the prison yard. I remember
my dad taking me to say hello to General Shehu Yar’Adua one evening after his
lawn tennis game. I watched him play lawn tennis almost every evening in the
yard in his impeccable white shorts and T-shirt. And there were always a
handful of prisoners helping with the stray balls. I witnessed the General yell
at an overzealous prisoner who dashed into the court unnecessarily to retrieve
a loose ball.
I also told my friend how Major Al Mustapha jokingly asked
me what crime I had committed to be in the yard. I quickly informed him that I
was the son of the chief warder. Till date, Major Al Mustapha is regarded as
the best thing to have happened to the inmates of Kirikiri Maximum Security
Prison by the inmates. He uplifted the spirits of the inmates by sponsoring
various activities in the prison yard. He sponsored the prison football team
and helped so many of the inmates gain their freedom. I always saw him seated
by the side of the field cheering the players. Sometimes in the company of
General Bamaiyi and Colonel Gwadabe, who were also inmates at the time. Other
high profile inmates in the yard at that time were Fred Ajudua and Ade Bendel.
Ade Bendel also rocked the prison yard with his swag. While other inmates wore
ordinary prison uniforms, his was made of jeans and a well tailored shirt to
match. They loved him like crazy for his benevolence. He built a hall for the
prisoners and invited Basketmouth to perform. Basketmouth was scared to go
alone and he asked me to accompany him, which I did.
We talked about life outside the barracks when my dad
retired. How Yakubu Aiyegbeni moved in with a friend living in my compound. We
always ‘yabbed’ him as he walked about the compound with his big ‘yansh.’ Till
date, we are still amazed how he played so brilliantly and effortlessly with
such a body size. Sunday Oliseh was a member of our senior football team.
Members of the junior team were made to pick balls while the senior team
trained. Coach Fanny Amun came to town at different times to plead with the
father of a member of our senior team to play for him. That happened after a
game the senior team of the town played against the national under 17 team,
coached by Fanny Amun.
We also talked about how Victor Okechukwu Agali, who was
known in Kirikiri Town and Satellite Town as “Okey Banana” made it from hawking
bananas in the streets to playing football for Schalke 04 in Germany. And how
happy we were collecting tips from Samson Siasia to watch over his car whenever
he visited his brother who was doing time in prison. We talked about how we
used to listen to team mates laugh about how they tortured Osaze Odemwingie
while they played football at the Pepsi Academy. Back then, every player in our
team had a crush on Ann Echiejine, the first goalie for the Falcons. She was a
member of the town’s female football team. She joined us in training regularly
and she became better for it. It seemed training with the male team improved
her skills tremendously. We were always very happy to have body contact with
her on the pitch.
I got back home that night, played a compilation CDs of old
Nigerian reggae music and slept with the thought of how Victor Essiet got
married to the late Becky Umanah, a girl from Kirikiri Town and they both
became The Mandators.
The shocking ‘checklist’ for picking up women posted online by California ‘dating guru’ Julien Blanc
Controversial 'pick up artist' Julien Blanc has posted a
domestic abuse chart on his Twitter page calling it a 'checklist' for 'how to
make her stay'.
The diagram was originally designed by a domestic abuse
charity to help women identify when they are being abused, and has sections
entitled 'use male privilege' and 'use isolation'.
The post, which has now been hidden online, came as
minister Lynne Featherstone urged Home Secretary Theresa May to ban Blanc
from coming to Britain. He is due to be in this country on November 21 to host
a seminar on pick up techniques, but an online petition calling for him to be
denied entry has already attracted 120,000 signatures. Mr Blanc who made a name for himself by being what he
describes as an 'executive coach' at a company called Real Social Dynamics,
which he calls an 'international leader in dating advice'.
It promises customers the chance to 'witness dating coaches
attract beautiful women in live demonstrations'.
But videos and pictures of Blanc in action suggest he
encourages men to harass women with the aim of having sex with them.
A video of one of his seminar in Japan shows him saying that
'white men... can do what you want' in Tokyo, suggesting that men grab women's
heads and thrust them towards their crotch.

91-year-old woman wakes up 11 hours later in funeral home
A 91-year-old woman in Poland was declared dead November 6
and sent to a funeral home, only to wake up 11 hours later in cold storage,
CNN’s Polish affiliate TVN reported. Now she’s home and doing fine.
The doctor went to the home of Janina Kolkiewicz in the town
of Ostrow Lubelski on November 6 after her family said she’d stopped breathing,
TVN reported.
“I checked the pulse on the forearm artery, carotid artery
also,” the doctor told TVN.
“I listened to the heart, to the breathing. I also examined
the pupils. There were no reflexes. Typical symptoms of death.”
The doctor signed the death certificate, and Kolkiewicz’s
family began planning services, according to TVN.
Then the funeral home called.
Authorities are trying to find out what happened.
“We are investigating whether the doctor exposed the woman
to imminent danger of loss of life, as the lady was moved to a funeral home and
kept in cold storage,” Beata Syk-Jankowska, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s
office in Lublin, told TVN.

Benue State governor and his deputy in auto crash
Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State and his deputy, Chief Steven Lawani, were involved in a ghastly road accident on Friday in which eight people were injured.
The accident came a day before the governor’s 50th
birthday which holds today.
The governor’s official vehicle in which he was travelling
and his spare vehicle were directly affected by the impact of the crash. The
two officials who were in the same vehicle escaped unhurt.
It was gathered that the governor and his deputy were on
their way to an official assignment in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area and
Gboko when the accident occurred.
According to an eyewitness, an oncoming vehicle which
overtook another vehicle lost control, sommersaulted, then hit the spare
vehicle of the governor as well as the vehicle in which both the governor and
his deputy were travelling.
The accident happened at Angbaaye, a few kilometres after
Makurdi, the state capital.

wheelchair-bound Piotr then strangled him with a belt, a court heard.
Grabowski, 30, wanted Piotr dead because he refused her
demands to allow her to bring a lover back to their home in Olsztyn, Poland.
And a court heard how she had sex with both his killers
immediately after the savage murder. Grabowski met caring Piotr while he was a
member of the Catholic aid charity Caritas – a group that was financially
supporting the mum and her five children.
They married a short while later and despite Piotr becoming
a stepfather to her children, Joanna began seeing other people.

It was then she told her husband, who was confined to a
wheelchair, that she had met another man and wanted to bring him to the family
home.
Piotr refused leaving scheming Joanna to arrange for her

Piotr’s body was discovered by passers-by who noticed his
empty chair and found him lying dead close-by.

The trio’s plot was unravelled by police who poured through
phone records before finally extracting a confession.
Joanna was jailed for 25 years and her five children have
