Graphic photos: Meet Danika Heron whose skin was ‘burnt from the inside out’ after reaction to epilepsy medication
Danika Heron, from Sydney, Australia, was diagnosed with
epilepsy at 18Just before her 19th birthday she was given two new medications.
Skin reaction is a rare but known side effect of drugs Lamictal and Keppra .On
her birthday in May, Miss Heron noticed she had a rash and swollen lips. Doctors
misdiagnosed the rash as herpes, measles and chicken pox. Her symptoms got
progressively worse and she was rushed to hospital. There she was diagnosed
with life-threatening Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and Toxic Epidermal
Necrolysis Syndrome (TENS).These conditions cause the skin and organs to burn
and peel. There is no cure, patients are given fluid and pain relief like burns
victims, Miss Heron spent just under a month in hospital but beat the disease. Now
says despite having dry eyes and scars she is ‘grateful to be alive’is now
campaigning for warning labels warning to be put on drug packets.
A teenage girl almost died on her birthday after suffering a one in a million toxic reaction to her epilepsy medication. Danika Heron’s skin began to burn from the inside out, after the new epilepsy medicine she was prescribed triggered an extremely rare illness. Over a period of four days, Miss Heron’s symptoms got progressively worse and her mother, Carmen Heron, 43 took her to another hospital in New South Wales. Although rare, SJS and TENS have been reported as side effects of Lamictal and Keppra, the two epilepsy drugs Miss Heron was taking. It came to a point when I thought I was losing her, I was begging her to fight it, willing her to pull though.’ Miss Heron spent almost a month in hospital as her entire body blistered, her mouth fused shut and she lost the top layer of her skin on her face, chest, back and arms.‘After that day, it was like everything happened in slow motion, we didn’t know if she would make it.’Miss Heron’s biopsy came back diagnosing her with TENS. Her mother said:
‘They say one in a million get SJS and it’s even more rare for TENS, one in three can die and re-occurrence is at about 40 per cent.’There is no known cure for SJS or TENS; once it strikes there is no way to stop it, so Miss Heron was forced to fight for her life as the condition ran its course.‘I think there needs to more done to raise awareness of SJS and TENS, there needs to be more research into the condition and more training in hospitals as it’s so rare it isn’t easy to diagnose.Read the full article right now: Click to read
Ugly girls revenge! University feminists turn tables on sexist bullies as hundreds support their unattractive selfies internet campaign
A group of university feminists who had sexist abuse hurled
at them have turned the insults into an attack on their bullies by calling
themselves The Ugly Girls Club. The students at Royal Holloway University in
Surrey were holding a talk about sexual consent at their student union when
they overheard themselves being called 'The Ugly Girls Club.'But instead of
letting the slurs get them down, they re-branded themselves The Ugly Girls Club
and started a Twitter and Facebook campaign to reclaim the word ugly, tweeting
pictures of themselves pulling unattractive faces with the hashtag
#uglygirlsclub. The social media site has since been flooded with hundreds of
photos from supporters, both male and female, across the nation.Alex Vosper
pulled down her lower eye lids, pouted her lips and tweeted 'proud to be
hideous'.
And Elena Barnard drooped her face, crossed her eyes and wrote
'sometimes I look cracking and sometimes I say stuff that's cracking. The stuff
I say lasts longer'.One picture from Daniel Tremor showed him posing with a
sign saying 'I'd rather be 'ugly' than a sexist w*****'. Natasha Barrett, the
feminist society president at Royal Holloway University of London, in Egham,
Surrey, said the funny selfies carry a serious message.Speaking to student newspaper
the Tab, she said: 'The aim of the campaign is to empower people to not just
think of their worth in physical terms.
'The selfies were tongue in cheek
to start with but they carry a serious message too.' She continued: 'There are
some fantastic student feminist campaigns around at the moment like 'Reclaim
Your Campus' and the National Union of Students 'Lad Culture' campaign -
anything that helps draw attention to these issues is great.'One student said
that the campaign had given her a confidence boost and that she was never going
to delete her 'unsatisfactory' selfies ever again, and that's exactly the kind
of response we want.'Women have enough self-esteem problems as it is - if this
campaign can go a little way to help combat that then we're happy.'
Photo: ISIS's latest killing machine: The 10-foot sniper rifle that can fire bullets three times the size of a normal gun
It's so big that it has to be supported on two tripods and
fires ammunition that's three times the size of standard rifle ammo.
An Isis terrorist has been photographed aiming a 10-foot
long sniper rifle out of a flat window in Kobane. The fearsome weapon fires 23mm
caliber bullets, far larger than the standard size. What sort of effect this
gun would have remains open to debate, however, according to firearms expert
David Dyson. He told Mail Online: 'The problem with identifying the effect of
this gun is firstly that we don't know for sure what the calibre is,
although there wouldn't be a lot of point in building something like this if it
wasn't of a significant calibre. Secondly, and probably of more importance, we
don't know how well it is made: is the barrel accurately machined and rifled?
'The effect will also depend on the type of ammunition used. These rounds exist
[23mm] fitted with high explosive incendiary or armour piercing incendiary
projectiles. They will be effective against personnel and vehicles including
lightly armoured ones. ‘The picture emerged after a show of force from al
Qaeda's Nusra Front, a rival group. They toured in a convoy around villages
they said they had captured from Syrian rebels.

Paul Rosolie explains why he filmed himself being eaten by an anaconda
The American naturalist who filmed himself getting eaten by
an anaconda for a highly-anticipated television event has spoken out about what
inspired him to take part in the risky stunt.'I didn’t want to stress [the snake] out too much. I wanted
to make sure that the suit was smooth and wasn’t going to hurt the snake,'
Rosolie said. ' I really wasn’t scared. We tested this suit and worked on this
with experts so we knew I was going to be safe.Amid a backlash from animal rights activists who
believe the anaconda was tortured by being forced to eat Rosolie, a man much
bigger than its usual prey, Rosolie has responded to say the
snake was unharmed and that the experiment was designed to raise money to
save the animal's habitat.'
I wanted to do something
that would absolutely shock people,' Rosolie told the New York Post. 'Environmentalists, we love to preach to the choir. What I’m
trying to do with this is bring in a bunch of people that wouldn’t necessarily
know what’s going on in the Amazon.'In order to attract the snakes's attention, Rosolie doused
himself in pigs blood and imitated movements of the anaconda's typical prey.
The snakes usually hunt wild pigs, deer, capybaras and caiman.Rosolie says 'it didn't take long' for the anaconda to fall for the maneuver, but wouldn't elaborate on what actually happened once the snake tried to
swallow him whole.Experiencing that kind of power was worth everything,
because it was just amazing,' he said

OMG : Friend of eye witness in Mike Brown shooting found shot to death after being set on fire in Ferguson
Just up the road from the memorial of stuffed animals and
candles that has become a place of pilgrimage and protest over the shooting
death of Michael Brown, there is an empty parking lot where another young black
man was killed last week on the night this city erupted in rage.
There are no rallies or news cameras there, no signs or
ribbons to mark the spot where, the police say, Deandre Joshua, 20, was shot
once in the head and then set on fire inside his car. He was the only person
killed during the fires, looting and riots that shook the city after a grand
jury declined to indict a white police officer in Mr. Brown’s killing. But in
the days since, Mr. Joshua’s death has largely become a footnote to Ferguson’s
story — an open homicide case and a bitter mystery for his family.
“The unknown is what scares me,” his mother, Maria, 39, said
in an interview at her home in nearby University City, where her son and his
identical twin brother, Dont’A, shared the basement. “I don’t know what
happened to him.”
His mother and brother described Mr. Joshua as a young man
who liked to joke, worked nights stocking shelves at Walmart and dreamed of
becoming a rapper. He graduated from Jennings Senior High School in 2012,
according to Tiffany Anderson, the district superintendent. He lived with his mother, brother and two younger sisters,
and was still trying to figure out his way in the world, his family said. He
considered joining the Army or applying to community college, but let both
options slide. His family said Mr. Joshua had never joined the marches and
protests over Mr. Brown’s shooting, even though, in a twist of fate, the twin
brothers were childhood friends with a crucial figure in the case, the witness
who was walking with Mr. Brown when he was killed.
Despite circulating reports from people suggesting that
DeAndre was also a grand jury witness in the Mike Brown shooting case, DeAndre’s
mother says he never testified before the grand jury [DeAndre’s] death became fodder for online speculation,
caught in the fervor over the unrest in Ferguson. People sifting through
thousands of pages of redacted grand jury testimony from the Brown case posited
that Mr. Joshua was one of the unnamed witnesses. But Mr. Joshua’s family said he had known nothing about Mr.
Brown’s death and never testified before the grand jury.As it waits for answers, his family has started a GoFundMe
campaign to raise money to cover his funeral and burial. The family scans the
online speculation about him, but tries to look beyond it. And Ms. Joshua said
she found herself driving past that ordinary-looking parking lot.“I don’t know why I go there — I just ride by,” she said.
“That was the last place he was at.”

Heartbroken teen, 15, jumped to her death from a 100ft monument after a row with her boyfriend
A girl of 15 who was besotted with her first love jumped to
her death from a 100ft monument after they had an argument, an inquest heard.
Ashli Cook’s boyfriend Marcus Webb, 20, found her body at
the foot of the Sir Eyre Coote Monument. She had sent him a text message saying "I am going to
jump off the tower. If we can't be together I can't be with anyone".Marcus told the hearing: “Her lips were blue. I started
nudging and shaking her but she wasn’t moving. I was screaming for help.”
He had gone looking for Ashli, who had a history of mental
illness, after she stormed off declaring: “I’m going to f****** kill myself.”Mr Webb said he had visited the tower several times with
Ashli and it was where they had taken their photograph together when they
started going out three years earlier. The young couple had spent the day before together but broke
into an argument over their relationship, Winchester Coroner's Court, Hants,
heard. He called the police and when officers and paramedics arrived at the
scene around 2.30am on September 21, there was nothing they could do to save
her.
Marcus said: "I feel so guilty and I feel it's all my
fault. She told me she
was going to kill herself and I did nothing about it."She meant more than life itself to me and I'm feeling
now there is no point in me being here anymore."A statement from mother Canasta Blake, 37, who has another
daughter and a son, told how the young couple had made plans for the rest of
their lives together.
"I do not understand why she did this, she had
everything to live for and often spoke of the future," said Ms Blake."I think, for her age, she was immature, in her
laughing, giggling and making up silly words. Ashli was a lovely young girl,
was imaginative, different and quirky, she had her own special dress sense."She would have grown up to be a lovely person."
She said Ashli had suffered from some bullying problems with
other girls at her school, The Burgate School in Fordingbridge, but she had not
expressed any wish not to attend school because of this and was working hard at
her studies.Ms Blake added that Ashli had told family members she wanted
to become an art therapist or an accountant.Ashli's GP, Dr Charlotte Hillsley, at Fordingbridge Surgery,
said she had suffered from low moods and sleeping problems. She had previously been referred to the Hampshire Child and
Adolescent Mental Health Services (Camhs) but had been discharged. But in July
2014 she had returned to the surgery and was referred again to Camhs and was
placed on its waiting list.
In a statement read to the inquest, Dr Hillsley said:
"Ashli had low mood and poor sleep and was struggling with bullying at
school."Her mother had told me she had removed razor blades
from the house and taken them to work with her because she was concerned that
she may self-harm."Central Hampshire Coroner Grahame Short recorded a verdict
that Ashli took her own life on September 21.He said: "Ashli was a deeply troubled girl but I find
that she chose to end her life on this occasion."He added: "It's clear that she had a boyfriend, Marcus
Webb, and I find that she was very much in love with him to a degree that only
a teenager can be."
The Eyre Coote monument was erected in 1828 to commemorate
Lieutenant General Sir Eyre Coote (1726-1783), who is best known for his role
as a senior officer in the British Army in India.

4 Killed as Thugs Clash at Lagos APC Primaries
Like a war scene, continuous gun report tore through the air
in the Ebute Meta area of Lagos State on Tuesday afternoon.
As residents ran helter-skelter in the ensuing confusion,
four youths were shot dead, while several others were wounded, as 20 vehicles
were also vandalized on four streets, namely Kano, Ondo, Odunfa and Ibadan.it was gathered that the crisis was the aftermath
of a primary election conducted for two candidates of the All Progressives
Congress ─ Oladele Adekanye (Lado) and Bashiru Oloto.
The two men were aspiring to get the APC ticket to represent
the Lagos Mainland Constituency one in the 2015 elections, the primary was won by Lado, a
former council chairman.
Punch gathered that immediately the results were
announced, more than 100 hoodlums from Apapa Road, who wielded guns, among
other weapons, trooped into the streets to create mayhem.Punch correspondent counted four damaged vehicles on Kano
Street, three on Ibadan Street, seven on Odunfa Street and six on Ondo Street. Those who were shot and cut with machetes were said to have
been evacuated.A resident, who pleaded anonymity, said one person was shot
on Simpson Street, two died on Lagos Street, while one was killed on Ibadan
Street.He said,
“The boys are from Apapa Road. They cannot be less
than 100 because they were many and had double-barreled guns, cutlasses and
others. They shot sporadically into the air and attacked people.“Apart from the four persons that were shot dead, many more
were seriously injured and were rushed to hospitals.”A trader on Kano Street, Tolulope Salaam, said the gang
carted away all her wares which she estimated at N60, 000.At the Kano junction, handsets and other products on display
were reportedly carted away by the rampaging hoodlums. When our correspondent visited Ibadan Street, where the
primary election took place, he observed that the road was deserted.A mechanic in the area, Musbau Agbogun, wondered how the
security agencies could not repel the attack. He said, “I have been seeing them patrolling the area.
I
also saw men of the Department of State Service and policemen from Denton
division moving round. Despite that, innocent lives were wasted. If this can
happen in the party primaries, what should we expect in the real election?”A victim, Gideon Makinde, whose Toyota Camry was vandalized
told Punch that he parked his car by a side of the road.A resident, Abdulhamed Kareem, explained that some of the
hoodlums broke into his sister’s supermarket, and took all the money in the
drawer. He showed Punch correspondent a commercial bus that was
riddled with bullets.He said,
“The man inside the bus was hit by a bullet and has
been rushed to a hospital,” he added. It was learnt that the same scenario almost played out
during another APC primaries in the Ogudu area, but for the intervention of the
police. It was learnt that protesters in Ogudu were prevented from
fomenting trouble during the primary. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said
nobody died in the Ebute Meta incident. He said, “There was a congress in the place this afternoon.
When they finished and announced the result, some persons attempted to cause
commotion.
“We were able to protect the materials and the officials,
who were escorted out of the scene without any harm. One person was shot and he
was taken to the hospital. There is no record of death.”He added that the election in the Ogudu area was peaceful
and there was no shooting. He said, “Election was held around a police station in
Ogudu, and some people came from Oworonshoki and started chanting protest
songs. They were asked to leave.”The APC spokesperson for Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, told PUNCH
Metro he was not aware of any mayhem.Via. Punch
I smuggled drugs to send my children to school
A suspected smuggler arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law
Enforcement Agency attached to the Murtala Mohammed International Airport,
has told investigators that he took to drug trafficking to send his
children to school.
According to Punch reports that the 48-year-old suspect,
Chukwuenyem Obi, was apprehended alongside a mother of seven, Ifeoma Ezeano and
two others – Gilbert Kelvin and Michael Okafor– with narcotics weighing 41.6 kilogram.
The NDLEA said the street value of the drugs was N374.6m. South Africa-based Chukwuenyem said he smuggled the drug to raise funds for his
three children, who had dropped out from school. He said.
“I struggle to feed my family by selling foodstuffs. At
present, my capital is so small that the business is almost moribund. A friend
introduced me to drug trafficking. He promised to pay me 15,000 South
African rand. My children are out of school because of my inability to pay
their tuition. This is my first time of dealing in drugs and i regret
everything.I pray to be out of this problem.Ezeano, who sold foodstuffs
in South Africa, claimed to have been tricked into the crime by a man he had
approached for financial assistance to expand her business. She said, “I have seven children and i take care of them from the sales of
foodstuffs. I came to Nigeria to buy foodstuffs like melon, vegetables and
other local spices. There is a man in South Africa that I went to request
financial assistance to enable me expand my business. He called me that
somebody would give me some food items for him. When I got to the airport,
NDLEA officers detected methamphetamine in the package given to me by the
man.” Okafor had 5kg of cocaine concealed inside silicon sealants on
his way from Brazil. The 44-year-old music producer, who was based in Asaba,
told narcotic investigators that he had gone to Brazil to promote his music
label.“I am a music producer. I travelled to Brazil to promote my music. I had a successful deal
but on my way back, I accepted a bag from a friend I met in Sao Paulo to take
to Nigeria. When I got here, 29 out of the 34 sealants were found to contain
cocaine. This is a major setback for my career.”
Lady Gaga reveals she was raped as a teenager by a music producer
Lady Gaga has revealed she was raped as a teenager.
The 28-year-old singer admits she 'went through some
horrific things' when she was 19 and relied on 'a lot of mental and physical
therapy' to help her to heal.Talking on The Howard Stern Show, Gaga confirmed she was raped by a
music producer 20 years her senior. When asked about the rape she initially said: 'I don't...I
don't want to... Happy times! Let's talk about happy things!'But when the radio host pressed her on the issue, she said:
'I went through some horrific things that I'm able to laugh [at] now, because
I've gone through a lot of mental and physical therapy and emotional therapy to
heal over the years. 'My music's been wonderful for me. But, you know, I was a
shell of my former self at one point.
I was not myself. 'To be fair, I was about 19. I went to Catholic school and
then all this crazy stuff happened, and I was going, "Oh, is this just the
way adults are?'...I was very naive."'Asked if she had ever confronted the rapist, who was 20 years older than her,
she said: 'I think it would terrify me. It would paralyse me.'I saw him one time in a store and I was so paralysed by
fear. Because it wasn't until I was a little bit older that I went, "Wow,
that was really messed up."'#
The blonde beauty, who is dating actor Taylor
Kinney, didn't tell anybody about the incident at the time, but eventually
decided to seek help. She said: 'I don't know what I was thinking. I didn't tell
anybody. 'And I didn't even tell myself for the longest time. And
then I was like, "You know what? All this drinking and all this nonsense,
you have to go to the source, otherwise it just won't go away. It will not go
away."'Although Gaga did not name her attacker, representatives for the
singer were later forced to deny claims by Kesha's lawyer that music producer
Dr Luke, 41, was the man responsible. Attorney Mark Geragos tweeted, 'Guess who the rapist was?'
And when a fan asked if it was Dr Luke, he responded '#bingo.'Lady Gaga's representative told TMZ, the allegations are 'absolutely not true' although
refused to comment on the identity of the attacker.
The spokesman later added: 'The Dr. Luke lawsuit is utterly
incomprehensible. This simply isn't true and how dare someone take advantage of
such a sensitive matter.' A representative for Dr Luke, real name Lukasz Sebastian
Gottwald, told the website: 'Mark Geragos' statement is completely false and
defamatory. Luke met Lady Gaga twice for less than half an hour total in those
two meetings combined. He has never been alone with her and never touched her.
Neither meeting was in that time frame reported.'But Mr Geragos stood by his allegations, telling TMZ: 'I
said it because it's true'. He mentioned the Bill Cosby allegations have 'now
made others more courageous about coming out.'What's more,
The attorney said he wants to depose Gaga in
Kesha's sexual assault lawsuit against Dr Luke, also telling TMZ that three
other women 'not as famous' claim to have similar experiences to Kesha
and will be deposed as well. Back in October, the singer filed a lawsuit for sexual
assault and battery against Dr Luke - allegations that he denies. Via.dailymail
