Lawmakers Pass Vote of Confidence On Governor Obiano

The Anambra State House of Assembly has affirmed its faith in the reforms of the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano with a unanimous vote of confidence in the seven-month-old administration during its plenary at the Legislative Complex, Awka.
In a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Chief Hafford Okeke, representing Awka South II Constituency, the member drew the attention of his colleagues to the gradual transformation of Anambra State into a secured and stable state for investment from both local and foreign businessmen and commended governor Obiano for making these possible.
Citing the return of sanity at Upper Iweka and relative peace in parts of the state as a result of the governor Obiano security initiatives, Mr. Okeke also noted the massive investments in agriculture, development of the oil and gas sector and massive infrastructure and road projects across the state as clear indications of a focused and performing administration and called on the members to recognise and applaud the governor.
Seconding the motion, member representing Anambra East Constituency, Mr. Obinna Emenaka said Governor Obiano has touched both human and physical infrastructures in Anambra State within a few months in office.
This position was buttressed by other members, who supported the motion, including the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Hon Paul Onyeka and the Deputy Speaker, Prince Chukwudi Orizu, who eulogised the governor for his giant strides in the area of security.
Also contributing to the motion, member representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency, Mr. Chugbo Enwezor and his counterpart from Aguata 2 Constituency, Mr. Ikem Uzoezie said Obiano had re-enforced confidence of APGA faithful that the future was bright for Ndi Anambra. They commended the governor’s prudence as well as his managerial and financial drive for the increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) within a short span from N400 million to a target of N1billion by the end of 2014.
In her contribution, member representing Nnewi South 2 Constituency, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu lauded Governor Obianos’ state-of-the-art crime prevention and security strategy, which she noted had secured many parts of Anambra from the grip of kidnappers and armed robbers and called on members to commend and support the governor in order to achieve more. Several other contributors praised the governor for his landmark achievements that had energised the citizens across party lines to once more openly express optimism in the growth and progress of the state.
Following the preponderance of positive contributions and support for the motion, Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Princess Chinwe Nwaebili read out the submissions on the motion for vote of confidence on Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano as passed.
Following the overwhelming passage of the motion, lawmakers, after plenary agreed to pay a solidarity visit to Governor Obiano to convey their position. At the Governors’ Lodge, the Speaker, Princess Nwaebili, told Obiano that the visit was to express solidarity and unalloyed support for him for his good works.
Said the Speaker: “Your Excellency, only this afternoon, a classic motion endorsing and commending your administration was unanimously moved and passed by the members of the House of Assembly. In the motion, all members spoke extensively on your unparalleled achievements in the areas of security, road, agriculture, internally-generated revenue etc. The House marveled that you were able to achieve so much in just under eight months.
“Our meeting with you this evening is to further re-assure you that the entire members of the House, irrespective of party affiliations, are in support of your good works and to ask you to ignore planted news stories on the net by disgruntled politicians who would want to distract you.”
Princess Nwaebili warned detractors against creating disaffection between the executive and legislative arms, saying the lawmakers would stoutly resist any external influence to that effect. She pointed out that the House was not unmindful of moves by enemies of progress to ruin the good working relationship and collaboration between the two arms and said any attempt to cause disaffection would fail woefully. The Speaker urged the governor to ignore planted news reports on the internet and other distractive tendencies by detractors.
“Let me assure you that in matters connected with the development of the state, the House is non-partisan and will always speak with one voice. And to the extent that you continue along the lines you are presently toeing, we, as true representatives of Ndi Anambra will continue to be with you.
“Nobody, I repeat nobody among the Hon. members and staff is harbouring ill feelings against you and any external influence that tries to cause disaffection between you and the House will be stoutly resisted and will fail woefully,” Princess Nwaebili assured. She enjoined Governor Obiano to maintain his style of good governance as the people were totally behind him.
Responding, governor Obiano thanked the Honourable members for the vote of confidence and support of his administration.

He noted that the members of the House had remained consistent and dedicated in giving the people of the State quality representation and assured them that his government would not derail in achieving set goals.
