A new controversy hit Saudi Arabia. Now, a Muslim cleric
declared snowmen anti-Islamic.
The cleric has forbidden the building of
snowmen, describing them as anti-Islamic. A religious website recently asked a
question as whether is it permissible for fathers to build statues out of snow
for their children. Replying to the question, Sheikh Mohammed Saleh al-Munajjid
said, "It is not permitted to make a statue out of snow, even by way of
play and fun."Sheikh Munajjid also quoted many Muslim scholars and argued that to build a
snowman was to create an image of a human being, an action considered sinful
under the kingdom's strict interpretation of Sunni Islam. In his ruling, he
said, "God has given people space to make whatever they want which does
not have a soul, including trees, ships, fruits, buildings and so on."
