Over the weekend, a new song by Nigerian dancehall singer
Burna Boy hit the Internet, called ‘Rock Star.’ Set to a simple acoustic guitar
hook, the laid-back Leriq-produced tune’s appearance prompted the artist to
slam the leak as sabotage by his former label, Aristokrat Records.
According to Burna Boy’s posts on social media, the song has
already been chosen as his next single (he says he just shot the accompanying
video) and Aristokrat is attempting to sabotage the track’s success by
releasing an early, unfinished version of the song online.Burna Boy, who left Aristokrat in 2013 after his successful
debut album, L.I.F.E., claims that the version of the song that’s
available online right now is the “weak skeleton” of the finished song, and
promises that the “actual” version is coming soon.
Here’s are Burna’s tweets
about the issue:
Everyone please ignore the leak of my single “RockStar”.
That is the weak skeleton of the actual song to be released later today. Thanks

We all know who’s responsible for leaking my shit. I don’t
wanna bring it to social media, but this time they will pay.

Please stop promoting the cheap effort of Aristokrat Records
to sabotage the release of my new single titled “RockStar”— #Check$ Balance (@burnaboy) January 10, 2015

It’s also worth noting that Leriq, who’s
credited with producing the leaked version of ‘Rock Star’, is an in-house
producer at Aristokrat, so it’s likely that the new version will sound at least
a bit different than this one. Stay tuned for more, including Burna Boy’s
version of ‘Rock Star.’ In the meantime, you can sample the leaked version of
the song below
