17 persons were allegedly killed yesterday when gunmen
suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked Nwuko village in Wukari local
government area of Taraba State.
An eye witness who spoke with LEADERSHIP
Weekend said that unidentified gunmen numbering over 140 invaded the village in
the early hours of yesterday and started shooting sporadically. He stressed that
over 82 persons were also injured when the attackers attacked residents of the
village.“The attackers have killed a good number of our people and injured
scores, we don’t know of what is happening,” he said. According to him, the
village has been reduced to rumbles within the few hours of the operation by
the attackers. When contacted, the Taraba State police public
relations officer, ASP Joseph Kwaji confirmed the attack but told LEADERSHIP
Weekend that it was nine persons who were killed by the attackers. He added that
several houses were also burnt in the process of the attack and that normalcy
has since returned to the affected village.
